Cross Fit
The Foundations Course - overview Print E-mail

The foundation course is designed to take someone new to CrossFit and introduce them to the basic CrossFit concepts, exercise safety, nutrition and nine basic exercises that make up the majority of the CF Workout of the Days (WODs). Each of the six sessions will include a workout. Don't worry, the workouts are scaled to your level of fitness and are not competitive or judged. We start with a 5 minute workout on the first session, we are not setting out to prove how unfit you are, or how tough CrossFit can be. The aim is to gradually increase your fitness and to allow you to use the exercises you have been learning in a real workout.

In the 6 sessions you will:

Gain an understanding of the CrossFit methodology. You’ll gain an understanding of the ten elements of fitness and how our programming in the gym will help you get fitter in every way.

Learn the form and technique to perform the 9 fundamental CrossFit movements including the extremely athletic, Olympic Lifts safely. You will also practice all the exercises that will appear in our group workouts.

Learn the progressions for exercises that may take you a few weeks,  months or years to acquire. For example, if you cannot do a handstand push up we will show you the variations that can get you working towards this gymnastics element. This is the scaling that makes it possible for you to workout alongside people who have very different athletic capabilities.

You will also get some basic nutrition information so that you can begin the process of optimizing your body composition. We all want to get lean, lose fat and keep muscle. Workouts with crappy diets will not achieve this for you, so we include both. CrossFit workouts are demanding and an important part of benefitting from them is having the nutritional basis to recover and build form your hard work.

Finally, during these six foundation sessions you will get a great intense workout. After these six sessions you should be all ready to join in the Workout of the Day classes.

Thanks to CrossFit Works, from whom we borrowed the 6 fundamentals info pretty much wholesale.

At CrossFit Central London, the training happens in small groups, with expert coaches and a high coach to student ratio. The positive, encouraging atmosphere feeds the sense of community you get when people share sweat and agony, achievement and triumph. People who’ve never tried it will never understand it. Those who put their egos on the line every day join a worldwide community of like minded people. People who will push themselves close to the limit to beat you in a workout, then cheer you on to do the best you can do and go out for a beer on a Friday night after training.

We see our role as educators. Our aim is to make you self sufficient, to empower you to be able to help yourself, program your own training, understand your own nutrition and be able to make informed decisions. All of this takes time. Our members will still be learning new skills, improving others and expanding their fitness horizons for years into their training. Our prescription of constantly varied, high intensity, functional workouts keeps things interesting, helps you get better at real world tasks and pushes your athletic development at a rate you would not believe until you try it for yourself.

This is the best you can get, the return on investment is huge, the experience life changing. The membership page gives an indication of the range of membership packages. We do not compete on price, we compete on quality, skilled professional coaching and training. There are plenty of places out there A LOT cheaper. You get what you pay for. Please check out the lower price places before you come to us so you know what you are getting. The real cost of entry is the effort you are prepared to put into your training and the energy you are prepared to put into the community.

You don’t have to be fit to start, we can accommodate everyone from arthritic grandmothers to Olympic athletes. There are only two requirements. Turn up and train.
